Do's
- Do follow all pre-surgery fasting instructions (no food after midnight the night before)
- Do bring dogs in on leash and cats in secure carriers
- Do label carriers with your name, phone number, and pet’s name
- Do disclose any medications, health conditions, or recent illnesses in your pet
- Do arrive on time for check-in
- Do provide vaccination records
- Do plan for a quiet recovery area at home
- Do monitor your pet after surgery and follow all post-op instructions
- Do leash walk for 3 days after surgery to allow for proper healing
Don'ts
- Don’t feed your pet ANYTHING during fasting time
- Don’t bring pets that are sick…vomiting, coughing, diarrhea, without calling first
- Don’t allow pets to roam free in the parking lot or in the clinic
- Don’t leave without discharge instructions
- Don’t let your pet run, jump, or play excessively during recovery
- Don’t bathe or allow swimming until the incision is healed
- Don’t give human pain meds unless specifically directed by a veterinarian
- Don’t ignore redness, swelling, discharge, or an open incision
