Microchipping your pets is one of THE easiest steps you can take to help make sure you are reunited with your pet in the event it becomes lost.
When an animal is found and taken to a shelter or vet’s office, or picked up by animal control, it is scanned to see if it has a microchip. If it DOES have one, an owner is identified and contacted (providing the owner information is registered and current). The owner can then make arrangements to get their pet back. If the animal DOES NOT have a microchip, it is considered a stray. If taken into the shelter, the animal is vaccinated and further attempts are made to locate an owner. After the minimum 5 day stray hold required by law, if no owner is found, the animal is then scheduled for spay/neuter if not already altered and placed for adoption. Once an animal is adopted, it then legally belongs to the new adopter…EVEN if the past owner then comes forward.
This is a very stressful time for not only owners of lost pets, but for the pets as well. You can make an appointment with us to have your pet microchipped for only $20, helping to ensure that they will be returned quickly in the unfortunate event that they become missing.
Dogs that are microchipped are returned twice as often to their owners.
Cats that are microchipped are returned nineteen times as often.

Traci’s Tidbits
Lots of great things are happening here at MCHS! We are in the process of putting in some additional outdoor play yards for our dogs and we are so excited about it! Stay tuned for some before/after photos to come!
Recently we were able to host a low cost vaccine clinic for the community and approximately 100 pets were vaccinated and/or microchipped! We have plans to host another clinic in October. We also had a yard sale on our front lawn. Donations rolled in for the sale and we can not thank you guys enough! Although it was hot, we were able to raise over $500 for the animals! We are also planning another yard sale in October and hopefully cooler weather will make shopping outside a little more tolerable!
July 11-17th was National Adoption Week at PetSmart. During the weeklong event, 27 animals found their forever homes!
August is National Clear The Shelter Month and we will continue to push hard to find our babies their forever families!! We will be at PetSmart on Aug 20th and will have some reduced adoption fees on certain animals all month long. September looks to be a great month!
We will be having our first ever Painted Paws Color Run/Walk on Sept 10th. Get more info here!
We are also super excited to be participating in this year’s BBQ On The River. We will have a table set up all three days along with adoptable animals just waiting for their chance to go home! Watch our website and Facebook page for more details as the time approaches!
